My Final week was quite a busy one, caught between classes and preparations of heading back home. Classes kicked off as usual, and much emphasis for the week was to do with the Basics in Engineering Skills and 3-D printing.
Mainly in engineering skills we focused on the use and process involved in drilling machine. 3D printing part was the one I enjoyed most as it involved a couple of fragments. The First step was to understand the core basis of the machine , it’s make up like hardware components e.g. motor, heater and control circuit just to mention a few. Software was also part of the lesson, and under this we did designing & operation using solid works and Repetier software. After learning the components and the theory regarding software, we proceeded to practical sessions. This involved production of tangible items that went through a couple of steps which include Modeling, Scanning on a 3D Scanner and then printing. The whole process of learning and production of different items proved to be very interesting and enjoyable for me. Personally I have some things that I made and become a part of my life, one of these things that I have immensely fall in Love with is my guitar, as a trial I modeled and designed a guitar carpo and plectrum which was quite thrilling for me, these were some of the things I made. Pictures of some of the things I created are shown below.
On the Social side it was a mixed moment. As usual we had an amazing lunch but so emotional since these are my last moments I shared with the people that have made a special place in my heart as soon I will go home. The friends I had made, the lively and interesting class I was in and some lecturers who had been a part of this interesting time I had spent in the US. And the fun part was the chilling and connecting part with everyone at OISS-Cookies & Conversation, the jokes, and the laughter was so lively and heartwarming. As I drew close to my Journey back home goodbyes were said, farewells were done and finally the leaving day came. I departed on Saturday 2nd July 2016 at 20:25hrs local time from George .W. Bush International airport, I arrived at Heathrow on 3rd July 2016 local time where I got my connecting flight to Johannesburg which departed at 19:05hrs GMT +1 and later on I arrived at O.R Tambo, Johannesburg where I eventually got my last connecting flight to Malawi and departure time 12:45hrs Central African Time. I arrived at Chileka International Airport on 4th July 2016 at 14:55hrs Central African Time. In reminiscence looking back at the time I spent in the United States of America in the space of a month both intellectually and socially; it was lovely, profitable and an experience I will remember forever.
