This is the last week of iSEED and i have to say some of the experiences i had during the summer.
The last week of iSEED 2017 began on Monday, the 24th of July. I was so excited to begin this week knowing that we were about to show our prototype to our client and other people and possibly receive feedback from them. Seven weeks have not been that smooth, we endured whole days of brainstorming and sometimes not having anything to show for the day. This did not stop us from trying other new methods, rather it helped us to learn from our and other peoples’ mistakes thereby avoid the same mistakes in the long run.
To begin with, we arrived in Texas on the 11th of July 2017 for the iSEED.We came as a team of four guys, Myself, Tiwonge, Blessings and Haggai. I was so amazed at how everything changed, this started with the temperature and humidity at the airport. I actually thought that there were some machines that produced such amount of heat. Texas is very different from Malawi; the infrastructure, the seasons etc.In Malawi, you would expect average temperature for all the districts to be around 65 Degrees Fahrenheit with only 4 districts registering very high temperatures as far as 90 Degrees Fahrenheit and i have never personally been to such districts. I remember Dr. Vero L. talking to us that Texas would be just as hot. One would agree with me that our team really experienced a change and had to adapt to that change over the summer.
After spending some few weeks in Texas, we were at ease with the temperatures and i loved it so much. What i liked much was spending most of my time outside to get some heat from the surrounding. I loved it so much to the extent that if i felt tired while working in the Kitchen, I would go outside to warm myself up. At last i can say that i love the high temperatures of Texas and it will be hard to cope again with Malawian cool climate, i hope i will try.
The most important thing that happened over the summer is getting to know different people from different parts of the world. During the Summer, American Students hosted Malawians and Brazilians.Undoubtedly, the benefits that one can have from such communion are too many. Most importantly, i learned teamwork and how to tackle challenges associated with it.
This week, we presented our final prototype to our funders and i was happy they were so excited about it. I salute my team mates for the job well done[Caz, Kelvin and Luiz]. Besides finishing our prototype, we have established a relationship which is the core entity of every successful project. Thank you.
